Gratitude can help you grow your real estate career in two ways – one that’s personal and the other that’s professional.
So first, the personal side…
Feeling good mentally and physically will help grow your real estate career.
Expressing gratitude has both mental and physical benefits. According to the Mayo Clinic Health System“, feeling thankful can improve sleep, mood, and immunity. Gratitude can decrease depression, anxiety, difficulties with chronic pain, and risk of disease.” That article is a short read and I highly recommend it.
They point out that if it was a magic pill, everyone would be taking it. And in truth it IS a sort of magic pill. It’s just that too few people realize its value, so they don’t take it every day.
Some people have told me that they don’t express gratitude because they have nothing to be grateful for. But of course that’s nonsense. If they’re able to hear me or read my words and respond, they DO have something to be grateful for. If they have a roof over their head and clothes to wear, they have things to be grateful for. Making a list of all the reasons for gratitude could easily take all day.
The key is to make feeling and expressing gratitude part of your daily routine.
The more gratitude you send out into the universe, the more you will have to feel grateful for. It’s the Law of Attraction, and it always works. (Beware, because it also works in reverse. The more you complain, the more you will have to complain about.)
Moving on to the professional side…
Gratitude will help you grow your real estate career by drawing people toward you in three ways.
First, they may feel drawn to you because of your outlook and the vibrations you give off.
People who are happy and grateful do give off a different vibration than someone who is angry, or anxious, or just plain sour. This will come through in your voice over the phone and in your written words, such as an email or blog post.
Also, when you have a mindset of gratitude, the words “thank you” will come easily, even over little things. And those words will make people feel appreciated.
Secondly, gratitude will help you grow your real estate career by making people feel good.
How can you make them feel good? By sending thank you cards.
To quote marketer Graham McGregor, people buy your goods and services because they want solutions to their problems, but they also want to feel good. After they’ve made a purchase, they want to feel good about the product or service they have just purchased; about the business they purchased the product or service from; and about themselves for having made that purchase.
Your job is to make them feel glad that they chose you, and how better than by showing your appreciation of them.
You can make them feel good before they ever make a purchase.
When you send a hand-written thank you note after the first contact, people will naturally feel good about having contacted you. Each subsequent thank you will reinforce that feeling until you do have loyal fans.
Think of all the times you’ve met with a prospect who didn’t turn into a client. Sellers often interview more than one agent before making a choice. Sending a Thank You Card after that first meeting will help them decide to choose you.
Sending them another card after they’ve signed the listing will help ensure their cooperation and will a) make them feel good about having chosen you, and b) give them something to tell their friends.
Since few people use thank you cards these days, they’re a novelty, so your new clients are very apt to mention it to friends. Will those friends want to know the name of the agent who bothered to say thank you? My guess is that they will.
Thirdly, sending cards and expressing gratitude after the sale will help to cement the relationship.
And that will help assure you of both repeat business and referrals. Of course you will have to keep on staying in touch. They WILL forget you and how much they loved you if they don’t hear from you in a year or two.
All of this is, of course, why I wrote a set of Thank You Notes, ready for you to use.
The Thank You Note set includes thirteen messages for real estate buyers and sellers, each to be used at a different step along the way. They begin with a “Thank you for contacting me” note, then a thank you for a listing appointment or a showing. Each of these notes reminds the client – or prospect – that you’re working for them, and paying attention to their needs.
They go on to include thank you’s after closing, and reminders that you’re there for them and would also love to help their friends and relatives.
To round out the set, there’s a note to send to the agent on the other side of the transaction and a client feedback letter. The entire set of 15 letters is only $45 – only $3 each. Go here to read more, or just Order Now.
By the way…
Sending other varieties of thank you notes is also a very good, very career-enhancing activity. Consider sending a note when you receive excellent service in a restaurant or store. (And send a note to the manager to thank him or her for hiring such good people!) Send a note when a neighbor or a friend does you a favor. Send a note when the day-care people stay late without charging you a fortune when you got tied up and couldn’t get there right on time.
Saying thank you in person is good, but sending a card really makes you a memorable person. And if you really want to feel good – send a note to a close friend or family member now and then. Let them know you don’t take their goodness for granted.
If you want to grow your real estate career…
Expressing gratitude is one of the simplest, least expensive ways to do it.
The most successful agents are those who have, over time, created a beautiful network of past clients who come back again and who refer others to them. Expressing gratitude is one of the easiest ways to grow that network.
It’s also one of the easiest ways to bring joy into your life…
