Is there a Golden Rule in marketing?

Does the Golden Rule apply to marketing? I think so! 

Marketers everywhere worry about what will appeal to their prospects. What will make them say “Yes” to an offer or entice them to pick up the phone and call for an appointment.

And in their efforts, many of them take chances on marketing promotions that do the exact opposite. They chase those prospects away and cause them to look elsewhere for the products or services.

How do they do that? By not following the Golden Rule.

What does it say? “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”

So why do some marketers persist in doing things that that would make them delete or toss the promotion if it landed in their mailbox or their email inbox? 

It doesn’t make sense.

None of us can be absolutely SURE that what we send out will appeal to our prospects. But we can be pretty sure that if we send them something we ourselves would dislike – or even be offended by – it won’t appeal.

So think about that Golden Rule…
