Here we are in a new year. And not only a new year, but one that began on a Monday – my favorite day of the week.
My wish for you is that this will be the finest year of your life (so far), both personally and professionally.
To help make that happen, I – along with many others – have been giving you advice on marketing and self-promotion activities you can use to make 2018 a profitable year.
But what about your happiness? What about your personal life?
You may know that I’ve been studying the Law of Attraction for many years. It all started a long time ago when one of my agents gave me a book by Florence Scovel Shinn. Mrs. Shinn came along before anyone had coined the phrase “law of attraction,” and she had some powerful things to say about how our thoughts and words dictate our futures.
In fact, many great teachers have said the same things. It just took Rhonda Byrne to write “The Secret” and bring it to world-wide attention.
What I learned from Mrs. Shinn and many others I’ve read since her is this: What we talk about and think about is important, because it will shape our futures.
My wish for you, then, is that you will find a way to remain positive in both your professional and personal life.
I wish for you to learn how to turn away from that which you don’t like and put your attention on that which you do like. We know there will always be unpleasant people and circumstances, but we don’t have to give them our attention.
When you look at yourself in a mirror, I wish for you to like, appreciate, and admire the person you see.
I wish for you to meet every challenge with the attitude and the expectation that it will come out well – whether it’s a business appointment, a serious conversation with your child, or a visit to your doctor.
When you mail a batch of prospecting letters, I wish for you to expect a good response.
When you head off to meet a new client, I wish for you to “know” that they’re going to like you and want to do business with you.
When you return home, I wish for you to expect to spend pleasant, harmonious time with your loved ones.
HOW TO MAKE IT HAPPEN:
Yes, of course you have to do the work if you wish to succeed in business, but tuning up your mental attitude can make it all SO much easier.
Over the years I’ve come across books that have helped me immeasurably. Among them are Mrs. Shinn’s books; The Secret and The Power, from Rhonda Byrne; The Aladdin Factor, from Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen; and The Law of Attraction and The Vortex, from Abraham Hicks.
If you’re at that place in life where you’d simply like to be happier and more successful, I recommend all of them.
Meanwhile, I’ve learned some specific practices that have proven successful – at least for me.
Letting go of stress: When something or someone makes you want to scream, stop, sigh, and turn your eyes to the sky. It’s easiest to do this when you’re alone, but you CAN do it quietly even in the middle of a meeting. Do it several times if need be.
Staying positive: When a negative thought pops into your mind – whether having to do with a present circumstance or a memory – stop again. Tell yourself “No. Think a better thought.” Then do it.
Attracting more of what you want: Practice Gratitude. Take time to consciously be thankful for all the good things in your life, be they large or small. Notice the things you like and let your eyes and your mind pass on by the things you don’t. A good habit is to give thanks when you awaken and before you go to sleep each night. Try to come up with ten new things each day. Many teachers recommend putting that list in writing each day.
Remembering to love: Love comes in so many forms, from romantic love to love of your pets and love of your favorite foods. You can love a beautiful sunset, a good photograph, the sound of waves crashing against the shore, or the aroma of new mown grass. There really is no limit. Take time every day to notice all the people, places, and things you love.
A practice I learned recently is to choose a favorite color. Then every time you see that color, remember that YOU are loved.
IF YOU’RE READY TO ACCEPT HAPPINESS and abundance into your life, you can do it. My wish for you is that you will.
