Enclose a reply envelope…
If you hope that your prospective client will reply via postal mail, enclose a reply envelope in your mailing. If he or she has to go hunt for an envelope and address it, your chances of a reply are pretty slim.
So make it easy.
Step #2: stamp that envelope.
You might not want to go to that expense if you’re prospecting to a cold list, but if you’re writing to clients asking for feedback after a closing, it’s a very good idea.
Send a form that they can fill in easily and include the stamped, self-addressed envelope, so the only effort they’ll need to make is getting that envelope into the mailbox.
I don’t know if it’s true, but I read years ago that a “fancy” stamp gets better results than an ordinary stamp. Somehow people think they’re more valuable and don’t want to waste them, so they reply. Since they all cost the same, when I was an agent, I always went for the fancy stamps, just in case.
